WHAT BUILDS BUZZ?

Why do some books build buzz while other books sit around looking depressed? Mixed metaphor I know, but you get the idea. We published a great poetry book called A Woman for All Time by Evelyn Gathman Haines earlier this year and we've been trying and trying and trying to get people to take notice. Bookstores in the Portland, Oregon area are less than interested. Publications we've tried to promote reviews in, are blase'. Direct mail response has been flat. It is a great little book, well written and well illustrated. And yet it is like pulling teeth to get the thing noticed.
Luella, on the other hand, seems to generate excitement everywhere she lands. We scored a nice coup by getting the book launch signed up for COMMON GOOD BOOKS, on Sunday September 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. CGB is located at 165 Western Ave. N., St. Paul, MN. The author's hometown newspaper ran a fine story. A local bookstore made Luella its STAFF PICK of the month. Reading specialists and school librarians are picking up copies for their collections.
So there you have it. One book flourishes while another flounders, and we're left trying to figure out why.
